Spice Up Your Meals When the Temperature Goes Down

Winter hits, and we’re just not looking forward to the same food we’ve been eating all summer and fall long. Our favorite restaurants are a safe haven for quality and consistency on our favorite dishes, but we need some spice, some zeal if you will. Spicy food actually helps your immune system, too, so you’re less likely to get sick during the chilly months. These are a few of our favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. There’s just nowhere better to get the best spicy food in San Francisco. Z & Y Restaurant Voted as one of the top restaurants in 2016, Z & Y brings you the right spice in authentic Chinese dishes. Heat up your palette and your dish selection with Chef Han’s authentic Asian cuisine and inspired meals. You haven’t truly dined in the Bay Area until you’ve stopped in to Z & Y. Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot Hot pots are a load of fun that add spice to your dish (at your discretion). Holiday Catering for Family Gatherings

There’s nothing nicer than being able to have a family gathering for the holidays and have that event catered. Time is precious and you want to be able to spend the bulk of your time with the people that you have invited. Whether your family gathering is fancy, formal – large or small, you can benefit from having your event catered.   I had never considered catering for a family event. I thought it would be too impersonal and too expensive. Boy was I wrong! I hired my first caterer for an extended family dinner of 17. What a relief it was to be able to go through the menu in advance, select items that I knew my family would want (grilled chicken and steak) as well as sides, rolls, salad and desserts. Holiday catering for family events has now become...

What Does ‘Farm-to-Table’ Really Mean?

Farm-to-Table Food Doesn't Necessarily Mean Organic or Non-GMO Over the past decade, thanks to books like Gary Taubes’ Good Calories, Bad Calories and documentaries like Food Inc. and That Sugar Film, more and more consumers have begun to question where and how their food is grown. In response, the food, event catering and restaurant industries are rushing to evolve to meet this need for “real food” which has come to include farm to table, organic food, and foods free of genetically modified ingredients. The so-called Farm-to-Table movement began with the goal of eliminating as many steps as possible between the farmer and the consumer. However, there are two distinct views as to what Farm-to-Table actually means. Traditional Farm to Table This is the most literal definition of the term. Caterers and restaurants who offer traditional Farm-to-Table meals will: Purchase food that is locally grown, often within a set radius such as 100 or 200 miles. Change their menus with the seasons, since only seasonally available produce is used. Use organic foods as much as possible. (This depends on the chef.) Many of the best catering businesses and restaurants follow this practice. Pragmatic Farm to Table Other chefs are less...
